GWEC and JWPA Sign MOU to Advance Offshore Wind in Japan
The Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA) (Tokyo, Japan; President: Masaru Akiyoshi) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the international trade association for the wind power industry, to strengthen cooperation and accelerate offshore wind development in Japan.
The MOU establishes a framework for collaboration between JWPA and GWEC aimed at promoting knowledge exchange, enhancing industry and supply chain networks, and supporting the sustainable growth of Japan’s offshore wind sector. Through this partnership, the two organisations seek to leverage global expertise and best practices to reinforce the international competitiveness of Japan’s offshore wind industry.
Under the MOU, the both organisations will cooperate, on a best-efforts basis and subject to mutual agreement, in areas including:
1) Facilitating business interactions through networking, business matching events, and participation in trade shows for the benefit of GWEC and JWPA members
2) Promoting engagement and joint initiatives between members of both organisations
3) Organising capacity-building programmes, workshops, and training to enhance the capabilities of offshore wind industry stakeholders
4) Support the development of joint publications on policy enablers — including finance, supply chain development, and regional carbon market integration — to address barriers to the energy transition and technology deployment
5) Sharing background information and promotional materials to mutually support events and communications across respective platforms
6) Engaging in regular dialogue to exchange best practices on offshore wind policy and regulatory frameworks, including harmonised standards in the Asia-Pacific region
