Global energy consultancy Xodus has secured $2million of project wins from its Boston operation since opening as it supports the US wide build out of offshore wind projects. The company's Boston team has been working with government and industry stakeholders to aid in establishing a domestic supply chain and workforce, while also advising on the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) leasing rounds and accompanying investment strategies.

Xodus is taking learnings from its experience in the NY Bight and North Carolina lease sales to advise energy clients now looking to participate in the leasing rounds planned for California, Gulf of Mexico, Oregon, Central Atlantic and the Gulf of Maine.

The team is providing the emerging market with a range of services including site selection, workforce assessment, local content identification and cables support. To enable this, the Boston office has grown to 13 people since launching in the summer of 2020, with further recruitment underway.

Hillary Bright, US VP for Renewables at Xodus said: "Despite opening at the height of the pandemic, we have been able to quickly establish strong relationships with local stakeholders while working on new initiatives and winning significant amounts of work, leading us to expand our Boston team.

"The NY Bight leasing round with $4.37 billion of planned investment for six lease areas will deliver a huge 5.5GW of capacity and shows the scale of ambition to create the new green US economy. Carolina Long Bay's two lease areas has a further 650MW of capacity each and we are actively working to accelerate development of the native US supply chain and workforce."

These are critical requirements needed to achieve the aggressive national offshore wind generation goals which include a federal target of 30GW of offshore wind by 2030 with a pathway to 110GW by 2050. The first two commercial scale US east coast projects have begun onshore construction in the last year.

Bright added: "We are now looking forward to the future with other states ready to take advantage of the wind opportunities with several further developments in planning. It's an exciting time to be helping to shape this new energy sector. Supporting our clients with site selection, workforce and supply chain including market entry strategies are a big focus for Xodus right now."

In addition to overall industry support, Xodus has prioritised diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives (DEI) through a partnership with Browning the Green Space, targeting women and people of colour to introduce them to opportunities in the offshore wind industry and help support the upskilling of a new energy workforce.
