Statement: New Va. Offshore Wind Blade Facility Critical Step for U.S. Supply Chain Localization

The United States offshore wind industry took another step forward with the announcement that Siemens Gamesa will build a new offshore wind turbine blade facility at Portsmouth Marine Terminal in Virginia. The $200 million facility will be the first blade facility capable of servicing the offshore wind industry in the U.S. and will create approximately 260 jobs. Siemens Gamesa announced the facility would support the Dominion Energy's Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Commercial Project, a 2.64 GW project.

The following statement can be attributed to Liz Burdock, CEO and president of the Business Network for Offshore Wind:

"Bringing the first offshore wind blade factory to the United States is another historic moment for our industry's development and critical to our ongoing efforts to localize a robust supply chain. With the global demand for offshore wind growing exponentially, we must accelerate development of a local supply chain to ensure the U.S. can achieve its renewable energy goals and create well-paying American jobs in the process. Today's announcement is a welcome sign of growing investor confidence in the U.S. market and highlights the Commonwealth of Virginia's emergence as a hub for offshore wind activity. Congratulations to Governor Ralph Northam and our federal leadership in helping make this day a reality and moving the U.S. market forward."
