In April, Iowa generated the highest percentage of its statewide energy from wind power. The state produce 76.2% of its total electricity from wind.

Wind energy generation decreased by 3.5% nationally from April 2024 to April 2025. The following table shows the top 10 states that experienced an increase in wind production since last year.

Which states have the most wind turbines?

It’s no surprise that Texas has the most wind turbines of any state since it is the country’s frontrunner in wind energy generation. The Lone Star State has 19,415 active wind turbines, according to the most recent report from the U.S. Wind Turbine Database. Texas has more active wind turbines than the next three states combined: Iowa – 6,472, Oklahoma – 5,597, and California – 5,510.
