International Partnering Forum Highlighted by Market Advancing Announcements

National energy leaders unveiled several key announcements affecting the growing offshore wind industry at Oceantic Network’s International Partnering Forum (IPF). The largest offshore wind conference in the Americas, IPF’s third day featured plenary remarks from offshore wind industry leaders as well as government officials including U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk, New York State Energy Research & Development Authority President Doreen Harris and others, who made several key announcements that will drive success in the industry through 2024 and beyond.

After introductory remarks from Oceantic Network Founder & CEO Liz Burdock, best-selling author Dan Gardner shared his insights on how megaprojects manage to find success despite ever-increasing complexity. Following Gardner’s keynote, top government officials from offshore wind regulatory agencies took the stage to make substantial announcements pushing the industry forward:

  • Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland announced the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s intention to conduct 12 new offshore wind lease sales by 2028 for areas across the East, West, and Gulf Coasts
  • NYSERDA President and CEO Doreen Harris laid out details of New York’s fifth offshore wind solicitation round and expressed the state’s intent to request another lease sale by BOEM in the New York Bight.
  • Deputy Secretary of Energy David Turk discussed $200+ million in 48C tax credits for offshore wind supply chain manufacturing and announced the Department of Energy’s new Offshore Wind Liftoff Report, as well as $48 million in funding for new research & development on offshore wind in the Great Lakes.

“The energy at IPF today following several industry announcements underscores the strength and momentum of the U.S. offshore wind market and the excitement of an industry transitioning to full deployment and hungry for the future,” said Liz Burdock, founder and CEO of Oceantic Network. “Combined, these announcements bring added certainty to the U.S. market, allowing businesses, communities, and economies to plan ahead, ensuring they take advantage of opportunities this new and growing industry will provide.”

Key supply chain announcements were also unveiled at IPF, including:

  • Aikido Technologies announced it had selected Chet Morrison Contractors to construct a 100kW scale floating wind platform for its Aikido One project.
  • Kalypso Offshore Energy announced a Letter of Intent with Royal IHC to build the U.S.’s first Jones Act-compliant cable lay vessel for the offshore wind market.

“At IPF we are celebrating the growth of an industry both in terms of supply chain growth and the completion of our first commercial scale project –– and now we turn to building three more projects at the same time with more waiting in the wings,” said Burdock. “The Gulf, our market’s supply chain engine, was the perfect location to showcase how the sea change taking place in our industry is also transforming the country with thousands of supplier attendees and public officials coming from all corners to chart our collective path forward. Now, we must apply the lessons we’ve learned and take inspiration from our expert speakers to drive the offshore wind industry into a bold new era. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together.”

This year’s IPF, taking place April 22-25 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, has already welcomed thousands of industry professionals from around the globe, all focused on sharing valuable insights and making connections to move the emerging U.S. wind industry forward. Attendees have access to nearly 400 exhibitors in the Exhibit Hall, more than 350 experts speaking on the latest developments, projects, and products moving the offshore wind industry and its supply chain forward, and a range of networking opportunities, including WindMatch one-on-one appointments.
