Business Network for Offshore Wind Leads Third Global Gateway Delegation Trip to WindEnergy Hamburg 2022

The Business Network for Offshore Wind concluded its third Global Gateway trip, leading a delegation of over 20 U.S. companies, organizations, and government officials to Hamburg, Germany to attend the WindEnergy Hamburg conference. Global Gateway is an initiative that connects American companies to the international offshore wind marketplace and supply chain across Europe, Asia, and South America. Participants, which included California Energy Commissioner Siva Gunda, had the opportunity to meet with international companies and key stakeholders in the global offshore wind industry to discuss how to accelerate the export of their products and services abroad as well as ways to partner to grow the U.S. supply chain. 

Previous delegation trips earlier this year visited Manchester, United Kingdom to attend the Global Offshore Wind conference and Bilbao, Spain for the WindEurope conference. The Network has trips scheduled to London, United Kingdom and Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2023.

Network Vice President of Public Affairs Melinda Skea met with World Bank Group attendees on Monday to share lessons learned on developing an offshore wind market framework in developing markets. Attendees represented Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, and South America. Later in the week she addressed media at a press briefing organized by German-based Network for Offshore Wind (WAB) and spoke to German and U.S. companies on cross collaboration and supply chain needs. Global Gateway participants participated in a popular panel discussion titled, Spotlight Market – USA.

"The passage of the landmark Inflation Reduction Act has put the United States back in the game to compete on the world stage in offshore wind development, and it's critical that U.S. companies are exporters in this growing industry. The Business Network for Offshore Wind's Global Gateway Program will ensure that happens— connecting American companies to developers, OEMs, and suppliers who want to buy their products and services."

Global Gateway is supported by a Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) grant awarded by the United States Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration, which helps nonprofit organizations pursue innovative projects that address trade barriers, enhance industry competitiveness, and generate exports that create or sustain U.S. jobs.
