Standard Solar Grows Commercial Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Portfolio with 13.7 MW Solar Project for a Maryland-Based Healthcare System

Standard Solar, a leading commercial and community solar developer and asset owner, has added another commercial power purchase agreement (PPA) to its rapidly growing portfolio. The agreement with a leading Maryland-based healthcare system will enable it to power facilities with clean, renewable energy with no upfront or development costs. The completed and operational 13.7-megawatt Costen Solar Farm will supply the healthcare system, one of the largest energy consumers and employers serving Maryland, with electricity under a 20-year PPA with Standard Solar, the project’s owner and operator. 

Engineered to deliver approximately 19,700 megawatt-hours of Maryland-generated clean electricity in its first year, the project aligns with the system’s mission to significantly reduce its carbon footprint, support its sustainability goals and contribute to Maryland’s Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard. This initiative also demonstrates a significant step forward in the healthcare sector’s efforts to address climate change.

Hospitals are known for high energy demands due to their 24/7 operations and the constant need for power for lighting, heating, cooling and life-saving medical equipment. In the United States, hospitals contribute to 8.5% of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions, with the average hospital using more energy per square foot than any other commercial building.
