Solar Liberty Receives 'Outstanding Solar Vendor' Award by Completing the Solar Carport Canopy & Electric Vehicle Charging Station at Farmingdale State College
Farmingdale State College's Alumni Association, located in Farmingdale, New York, has awarded Buffalo-based Solar Liberty the 'Outstanding Solar Vendor' Award. In September 2013 the college officially unveiled its 94.08kW Carport Canopy and Electric Vehicle Charging Station. The facility - the first of its kind within the SUNY system - was designed, engineered and installed by Solar Liberty.
Adam and Nathan Rizzo, brothers and founders of Solar Liberty, received the award. "Farmingdale State College is leading the way and demonstrating how smart grid projects can truly become a reality. This award is an honor and a tribute to the hard work of our employees and partners that made this project a reality. We are very thankful that the Alumni Association has recognized our team's achievement" said Adam K. Rizzo, President and CEO of Solar Liberty.
This project was a collaborative effort between Solar Liberty, Farmingdale State College, LIPA and Stony Brook University and is a major component of the $24 million Long Island Smart Energy Corridor with funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Farmingdale's "Green Growth Initiative" was developed by President W. Hubert Keen as part of the College's mission to develop the college as a Model of Green Technology. As SUNY's largest college of technology and an important economic engine for the region, Farmingdale continues to invest in sustainability.
Dr. Kamal Shahrabi, Dean of the School of Engineering Technology and Executive Director of the Renewable Energy and Sustainability Center (RESC) at Farmingdale State College led the charge on this project and worked closely with Solar Liberty on every detail. "At this time, on behalf of Farmingdale State College, I would like to express sincere thanks to Solar Liberty for all of their hard work and dedication in completing Farmingdale’s Solar Carport," said Dr. Shahrabi. "Solar Liberty was one of the most professional companies I have ever had the privilege of working with at Farmingdale State College. I cannot thank them enough for helping our campus be the first SUNY campus in the state to offer this technology."
The solar carport canopy and charging station, which is an important element of Farmingdale's green technology strategy, is located in a main student parking lot near Lupton Hall. The 94.08 kilowatt solar array can charge 20 electric vehicles at a time, draws its power from 390 Solar Liberty SLX solar panels and produces approximately 100 kilowatts of electricity.
