Request for Proposals: Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Hubs
IREC is pleased to publish this Request for Proposals for the design and installation of five (5) photovoltaic and storage systems in vulnerable communities in Puerto Rico.
With a grant from the United States Department of Energy, and in collaboration with the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus, the objective of the Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Hubs Program is to provide community facilities with access to electricity before, during, and after an extreme weather event or other major grid-related power outage.
This initiative will provide, at no cost to the communities, a Distributed Energy Resource (DER) with at least 5 kWdc of photovoltaic generation and a 13 kWh ac battery energy storage system (BESS) to supply essential loads identified by the community, such as food refrigeration, essential medications, phone charging stations, portable batteries, and portable medical equipment.
An informational webinar will be held on May 6, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time (AST) to discuss the details of the request and answer applicants' questions. Click here to register.
The Request for Proposal (RFP) webpage contains technical details, timeline, and other essential information for the proposal, along with a link to the online application submission form. Proposals must be submitted by May 30, 2025. Community site visits will take place on May 12, 14, and 15. We aim for the installations to be completed by September 2025.
