Nautilus Solar Responds to Improvements to the Community Solar Program in Minnesota
Nautilus Solar Energy, a leading community solar developer, welcomes the recent improvements made to Minnesota's community solar program. The signing of House File 2310 by Governor Tim Walz represents a significant step forward in expanding access to clean energy and reducing energy costs for residents across the state.
House File 2310, an Environment, Natural Resources, Climate, and Energy Finance Policy bill, brings about crucial changes to Minnesota's community solar program. These changes include the removal of the contiguous county restriction and an increase in the project size from 1 MW to 5 MW. These key elements will pave the way for an estimated delivery of 1.5 GW of community solar and distributed generation project development to Minnesota.
Commenting on the new legislation, Jeff Lee, Director of Development at Nautilus Solar Energy, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We are excited to see the passage and signing of HF 2310, creating a more equitable community solar program in Minnesota. As an industry leader in community solar with a long history of success in Minnesota, Nautilus Solar is looking forward to supporting our network of development partners to bring clean energy and financial savings to more subscribers across the state."
Minnesota has been at the forefront of community solar initiatives since December 2014 when it became the first state to pass legislation allowing residents to opt into community-shared renewables. The state has made significant strides in its commitment to renewable energy and aims to achieve 100 percent renewable energy by 2040. With the enactment of HF 2310, Minnesota is well on track to reaching this ambitious goal.
In Minnesota, Nautilus Solar Energy currently owns and operates nearly 40 MW of operational and late-stage development projects, enough clean energy to power 8,000 homes. Nautilus Solar works closely with local communities, generating tax revenue, creating job opportunities, and providing energy savings to residents.
Nautilus Solar's community solar projects offer an opportunity for residential and commercial customers within the Xcel utility territory to subscribe without any upfront costs, long-term commitments, or cancellation fees. As part of their expansion plans, Nautilus Solar invites customers to subscribe to their community solar projects in Blue Earth, Meeker, Pope, Sherburne, Sibley, Wabasha, Winona, and Wright Counties.
The enhancements made to Minnesota's community solar program through HF 2310 mark a significant milestone in the state's renewable energy journey. Nautilus Solar Energy is committed to playing a crucial role in achieving Minnesota's renewable energy goals and looks forward to making a positive impact on the state's energy landscape.
