EPA Preparing to End Solar for All Program, Threatening Energy Access and Economy
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under the administration of President Trump and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, is preparing to cancel $7 billion in grants awarded through the Solar for All program, which helps low‑ and moderate‑income households access affordable solar solutions. The EPA is drafting termination letters to the 60 grantees—including state agencies, nonprofits, tribal governments, and municipalities across 49 states—and expects to issue them by week’s end.
Sach Constantine, Executive Director at Vote Solar, issued the following statement:
“The EPA’s move to cancel Solar for All grants and claw back contractually obligated funding is deeply alarming. This action comes despite federal court orders to release the funds after Trump’s initial freeze. Projects are shovel-ready – designed to deliver local jobs, lower energy bills, and climate resilience to communities across 50 states.
“Now, communities that were promised a path to affordable energy solutions are being abandoned – left in the lurch just as they were preparing to break ground. With projects stalled, thousands of clean energy jobs will be at risk – jobs that would have gone to local workers in the very communities this program was meant to uplift.
“This is part of an overall attack on energy access broadly and clean energy in particular. Solar for All is a well-designed program that is falling victim to a federal government that’s putting politics over people – and our communities will pay the price. If the Trump Administration breaks these contracts, local economies across the country will bear the cost at a time when energy bills are skyrocketing and families are desperate for more affordable, reliable options. Trump is taking that choice away.”
