WATTMORE and Partners Complete Construction Phase of Utility BESS Project

WATTMORE announced the completion of the construction phase of our 3 MW / 12MWh Energy Storage Project for the Nebraska utility, Lincoln Electric System (LES), with final commissioning within the coming weeks. The culmination of four years of partnership with Bridge Renewables, now Apollo Capital, and two years of construction with project partner, Eos Energy Enterprises (Eos), as the long-duration energy storage technology supplier, was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the facility in Lincoln last week. 


WATTMORE Founder and CEO Jonathan (JW) Postal, was one of the event speakers, “on behalf of my amazing team of engineers, software creators and project managers at WATTMORE, we are proud to see this utility-scale energy storage system at the finish line.  In the next few weeks, the teams will finish commissioning and commercial operations requirements,” said Jonathan (J.W.) Postal, Founder and CEO of WATTMORE. “I want to thank our amazing partners at Pro-Bid Energy for their tireless EPC work, Bridge Renewables, now Apollo Capital, for their financing partnership, and our technology partners from Dynapower and Eos Energy. Finally, I want to give a big shout out to the entire team at Lincoln Electric System for hosting and leading this innovative project.”

Eos supplied its Z3 zinc-based long duration energy storage technology, built on a non-flammable aqueous zinc chemistry and manufacturing in the United States. The technology is designed for utility-scale applications that require safe, reliable performance, operational flexibility and multi-hour discharge duration.

This project strengthens the local electric grid and LES’ existing community grid, which supports downtown Lincoln in the event of an outage and handles grid services. The energy system was formed by three American energy companies who worked resiliently to make sure this milestone project efficiently services Nebraska’s capital city. 

WATTMORE’s Intellect Operate system will monitor and control the battery for health, safety and daily operations, as well as provide a customized energy dispatch schedule. WATTMORE is pleased to collaborate on such an innovative project. 

The project also supports LES’ strategic plan, Powering LES Forward, by advancing reliable and resilient infrastructure, strengthening operational flexibility and creating opportunities to manage energy costs through energy storage.
