Monta Officially Launches in Canada with Leading Retailer Sobeys as Flagship Enterprise Customer

Monta, a Copenhagen-founded company powering the backend software for EV chargers, announced its official launch in Canada with Sobeys, one of the country’s largest grocery retailers, as its flagship enterprise customer. Sobeys will use Monta’s platform to power its nationwide workplace charging rollout.

Canada’s EV charging infrastructure is growing rapidly, with public charging ports increasing 24% year-over-year across 13,000 stations. The federal government has committed over $1.2 billion to support the deployment of tens of thousands of EV chargers, and Canada’s Electric Vehicle Availability Standard sets a path to 100% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035. Yet challenges remain including charging software fragmentation and reliability concerns, as operators and governments work to improve uptime and interoperability across networks.

Monta’s software is purpose-built to solve these challenges. Founded in Denmark in 2020, the company has scaled to support over 3 million charging sessions per month across over 250,000 commercial chargers under supervision. Monta’s software is compatible with over 900 charger models from over 250 hardware brands, giving operators the flexibility to build and manage networks without hardware lock-in.

“Canada’s charging market is growing fast, and operators need software they can trust to grow with them,” said Casper Rasmussen, CEO and co-founder of Monta. “Having Sobeys as a flagship enterprise customer to launch in Canada is a milestone for us. We’ve spent five years building an open, reliable platform in Europe and the US, and we’re ready to bring that same foundation to Canadian operators.”

“At Sobeys, we’re committed to making sustainable choices easier for our employees and communities. Partnering with Monta gives us a reliable, scalable platform to roll out EV charging across our national network,” said Natashia Dunham, National Director Real Estate.

Monta is already operational in Canada with several Canadian operators, including a multifamily and public network operator, an installer operator, and a Canadian utility supporting a public charging pilot. Monta’s platform is built with the compliance and security Canadian operators need, including SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certification. The platform supports carbon credit data capture for Canadian programs, including CFR and British Columbia’s provincial program. Monta is also in the process of completing a roaming integration with ChargeHub, making Monta-powered chargers discoverable and accessible to drivers across Canada.
