ESA Statement on Gov. Granholm's Confirmation as Secretary of Energy

ESA applauds the Senate's bipartisan confirmation of former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm to be the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Secretary Granholm has long championed building America's leadership in energy storage innovation, manufacturing, and deployment. We look forward to working with her as she leads at a pivotal moment for DOE, following the expanded authority on storage investments that Congress granted in end-of-year legislation, the Department's Energy Storage Grand Challenge roadmap now established, and the recent Executive Order reviewing battery storage supply chains.

Energy storage is fundamental for the transition to a resilient clean energy economy. As the grid disruption in Texas has shown, tackling the climate crisis requires both mitigation through decarbonized power & transportation and adaptation through a more resilient infrastructure. Energy storage is central to meeting both of these challenges. ESA is committed to supporting the Biden-Harris Administration and Congress to expand the benefits of storage--including job creation, decarbonization, and resilience--for all Americans.
