Eaton to Showcase Power Management Solutions for Solar and Energy Storage Systems at Solar Power International

Power management company Eaton will highlight a range of solutions and engineering services to help customers maximize their renewable energy investments at Solar Power International 2015, from September 15 through 17 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. At booth #2922, visitors can meet with the company’s application experts and see its industry-leading products. Eaton will also deliver a presentation at the event focused on technology advancements helping to reduce project costs and improve reliability.

With a complete offering of electrical balance of system (BOS) solutions, Eaton is helping utility, large commercial and OEM customers make cost-effective, reliable solar generation a reality. Eaton is providing solar inverters, transformers, DC collection equipment and services for the 72.9-megawatt Redwood Solar Farm in Kern County, California. Eaton was also recently awarded a contract to provide electrical distribution equipment and engineering services for 8.2-megawatts of community solar installations in Colorado. Eaton is also providing inverters, transformers and other BOS solar solutions and engineering services for two 5-megawatt projects in North Carolina.

“As the global solar and energy storage markets continues to grow, Eaton is committed to developing game-changing solutions for maximizing cost-effectiveness, reliability and efficiency,” said John Vernacchia, global segment manager for renewable energy, Eaton. “These innovative solutions are supported by hundreds of application and field service engineers, and factory product experts to help customers maximize their investments in renewable energy.”

As the size and scope of solar installations continues to increase, controlling the costs and long-term reliability of solar projects is a critical challenge. From 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. on September 16, Vernacchia will address equipment considerations in a session titled, “Technology Advancements to Reduce Costs and Improve Uptime: New Combiner and DC Harness Combinations Lower Costs 10 to 20 Percent,” in room 207A.

Vernacchia’s presentation will explore how modern power management technology is able to integrate combiners and direct current (DC) harnesses into plug-and-play solutions capable of yielding dramatic cost savings, simplified installation and improved power reliability. Examples from a recent project will be shared to demonstrate how integrated DC combiners and wire harnesses solutions help reduce solar project installation costs and improve overall improve system quality.

Eaton will also showcase an expanded portfolio of electrical BOS solutions for solar and energy storage applications at the show, including:

Power Xpert Solar 1500- and 1670-kilowatt (kW) inverters, which enable a skid-less inverter station design to reduce equipment requirements and installation costs

Power Xpert grid-connect energy storage inverter that is designed to increase electrical resiliency in utility-scale applications, and work seamlessly with a wide variety of battery chemistries to store and transmit power when needed

Eaton’s Cooper Power series high-efficiency transformers with overcurrent protection devices, for transformers up to 38 kilovolts (kV), which are designed to dramatically reduce maintenance and downtime

Smart VFI underground distribution switchgear is designed to easily integrate into grid-tie generation systems

Power Xpert Solar 1000 volts (v) direct current (DC) breaker recombiner tested by Underwriter Laboratories (UL) and certified to meet UL 1741 standards for safe and reliable operation in grid-tied applications

Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds series aluminum string circuit capable combiners and wire harnesses use proprietary interconnection technology to allow for multiple options to support disconnecting means, surge protection, monitoring and other custom requirements
