Voith Hydro North America Receives Procurement Partner Sustainability Award from the University of Notre Dame

Voith Hydro North America has been awarded the University of Notre Dame Procurement Partner Sustainability Award for the exemplary innovations, products, and services it contributed to the Notre Dame Hydro project, the largest carbon reduction strategy implemented to date as part of the University's goal to become a carbon neutral campus by 2050.

As part of the Notre Dame Hydro project, Voith Hydro North America supplied 10 StreamDiver turbines and the associated control system technology each capable of producing 250 kW of clean and renewable electricity to the Notre Dame campus. Voith Hydro's innovative StreamDiver turbine is completely oil-free and designed for places where traditional large hydropower is not possible.

"The turbines and technology supplied by Voith Hydro played an important role in meeting our project's sustainability goal," said Shannon Cullinan, Executive Vice President at Notre Dame. "These StreamDiver turbines are also the first such installation in North America and will supply a green energy source that we expect to contribute approximately 7% of the campus' electricity."

The University's Hydro project includes a state-of-the-art hydroelectric facility located along the St. Joseph River in downtown South Bend, Indiana. The clean, renewable energy supplied by the facility is projected to reduce the University's carbon emissions by nearly 10,000 tons of CO2 per year.

"We're honored to support the University of Notre Dame to achieve their sustainability goals," said Stanley Kocon, President and CEO of Voith Hydro North America. "Our partnership on this project is a great example of how two world-renowned organizations can come together to promote the adoption of clean energy technologies that reduce carbon emissions, all in pursuit of a shared goal of environmental stewardship."
