POWER Forms Environmental Construction Support Services Team

A new department at POWER Engineers, Inc., aims to help major construction projects run smoother for utilities and developers in the energy industry.

POWER announced the new Environmental Construction Support Services department this month, allocating more resources to a set of long-standing POWER services. Cap ex spending is at an all-time high as utilities and developers across the country upgrade and expand their existing systems to meet energy demands resulting from renewables, electrification and other market drivers.

By dedicating project managers and field inspectors to providing these services, POWER hopes to better support clients with major transmission line, renewables and oil and gas projects moving into the construction phase.

“Increasing our resources and leadership in this area continues our client-focused approach,” said Maria Gou, Environmental Division Manager. “We will be better able to establish best practices while still tailoring each compliance program to our clients’ needs during perhaps the most exciting—yet also the most challenging—phase of their critical infrastructure projects.”

The department will be led by Brandy Smart, who joined POWER in August 2022 with more than 20 years of experience in the electric transmission and distribution and oil and gas industries. Smart has led the commissioning, environmental compliance, education and training, and construction monitoring efforts for many large-scale infrastructure projects across the country.

“It’s an exciting time in the industry and at POWER,” said Smart. “Many of the projects we have supported from routing through engineering design and permitting are now entering construction. Interpretation and implementation of complex permits can lead to delays and cost overruns if not managed correctly during construction. We’re happy to help our clients efficiently navigate this maze with decades of experience on our team.”

In addition to environmental monitoring and construction inspection compliance, POWER offers construction management and inspection field services through POWER Constructors and POWER360—a proprietary GIS-based platform that captures and shares project information across teams.
