Constellation Accepting Applications for 2019 Energy to Educate Grant Program

Constellation, an Exelon company, is accepting applications for its 2019 E2 Energy to Educategrant program, which provides funding for student research projects focusing on energy innovation. Students in grades 6-12 can apply for program grants up to $25,000, and students in two- and four-year colleges can apply for grants up to $50,000. The deadline for applications is Oct. 1, 2019.

"It's imperative that we do our part to support and encourage the next generation of energy industry leaders. Signature programs such as Energy to Educate do just that," said Jorge Acevedo, senior vice president, Innovation and Strategy for Constellation. "To date, we've provided more than $3.4 million for research and education programs that have fueled the exploration into STEM fields for more than 180,000 students."

In 2018, Energy to Educate awarded more than $450,000 across 20 projects and reached more than 18,000 students nationwide. Projects included solar car competitions, fuel cell technology, energy storage, wind power, and teaching energy concepts via an interactive gaming platform.

Dr. Roberto Ramos runs the Physics Girls Wonder Camp hosted at University of the Sciences. As a result of 2018 E2 funding, students at the camp were able to conduct experiments using liquid nitrogen, build and race solar boats, and learn how to present scientific data.

"Without the support of Constellation's E2 Energy to Educate program we would not have been able to run the Physics Girls Wonder Camp," Ramos said. "These grant dollars help us to sustain and cultivate interest in the sciences for middle school girls and inspire them to pursue careers in STEM fields."

Exelon companies, together with Constellation, contributed more than $51 million to nonprofits in 2018 supporting education, the environment, culture and arts, and community development.

Grant recipients are announced each year during American Education Week.
