ACORE Statement on Sen. Hickenlooper and Rep. Peters’ Introduction of the BIG WIRES Act

Statement From Gregory Wetstone, President and CEO of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE):

"As extreme weather events become more frequent, our nation’s balkanized grid is increasingly unable to reliably deliver electricity to where it’s needed. Expanding America’s interregional transmission capacity is key to keeping the lights on. We commend Sen. Hickenlooper and Rep. Peters for introducing the BIG WIRES Act, which would establish minimum transfer requirements between transmission planning regions. This straightforward, commonsense approach would help spur the construction of the critical transmission lines needed to keep electricity costs low for American businesses and consumers and reduce the risk of power outages during times of stress on the grid. This bill represents a crucial step toward the 21st century Macro Grid we need to keep pace with global competition."
