Mustus Energy to partner with Lockheed Martin on construction of biomass power generation facilities in Alberta
Mustus Energy Ltd. is announcing a partnership with Lockheed Martin to engineer and build the first of a series of six biomass-fueled power generation plants in Alberta. Construction has already begun on a 41.5 megawatt plant in La Crête, in northern Alberta. The La Crête plant will provide enough electricity to power over 30,000 homes.
Mustus Energy Ltd. will use residual, waste wood from Aspen trees processed at Alberta lumber mills as fuel for the power generation plants. Lockheed Martin is engineering and managing the construction of the La Crête plant, which is expected to begin operations in the fall of 2013. The company will continue to provide engineering, procurement and construction management services for all upcoming construction projects, as part of the agreement.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Lockheed Martin on power generation plants that will make Alberta a world-leader in biomass-generated electricity,” said Ross Maxwell, CEO, Mustus Energy Ltd. “Lockheed Martin brings a vast range of expertise in project management of large-scale construction operations that will ensure the successful development of these facilities.”
