Kiwi Energy to Sponsor the 2020 Brooklyn Waterfront Challenge for a Healthy & Sustainable New York

Energy retailer, Kiwi Energy, announced its sponsorship of the 2020 Brooklyn Waterfront Challenge to support Brooklyn Greenway Initiative (BGI)'s mission to connect a stronger, healthier and greener Brooklyn. Along with other non-profit organizations, Kiwi Energy has supported BGI for several years through its Ecogold Environmental Fund.

The 2020 Brooklyn Waterfront Challenge is a road race reimagined for the socially distant era. The month-long running and cycling series will challenge participants to explore the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway while they run or bike Brooklyn's incredible 131-mile shoreline. There are distance options to match athletes at every skill level and friends are able to enroll and compete as teams.

"Urban nature has been a source of comfort and inspiration for many during COVID-19. As governments began to ease restrictions, those living in urban areas have turned to green spaces more than ever," said Richard Booth, President of Retail Operations at Kiwi Energy. "Natural features and diverse urban greenspaces are critical for creating more sustainable cities. Kiwi Energy continues to value the incredible efforts pursued by Brooklyn Greenway Initiative to achieve its mission of developing and maintaining the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway and encourages New Yorkers to participate in the Brooklyn Waterfront Challenge."

The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway is a 26-mile protected and landscaped cycling and pedestrian route spanning from Greenpoint to East New York that connects Brooklyn's breathtaking waterfront. For more than a decade, BGI has acted as the catalyst for the development, establishment and long-term stewardship of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway.

The 2020 Brooklyn Waterfront Challenge will take place from October 1st-31st. Participants can register here to participate and support BGI's mission.
