U.S. Energy Storage Association Announces #ESACon20 Event Partners

The U.S. Energy Storage Association (ESA), the national trade association for the American energy storage industry, is partnering with the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) for this year's virtual Energy Storage Annual Conference and Expo (#ESACon20) that is taking place August 24-27. The collaboration brings together the implementers, manufacturers, utility, research and development and services segments of the energy storage industry through an innovative and unique conference platform.

ESA has expanded this year's conference content to appeal to the broader electric sector. With storage at the hub of the conversation, the theme of #ESACon20 is "Electrification and Resilience: We're All in This Together." Tracks over the four-day conference focus on the changing nature of resources on the grid; increased electrification of the American economy; and a growing demand for resilient, efficient, sustainable and affordable power. This year's conference also includes the ESA Storage Exchange - Powered by EPRI as part of its enhanced programming.

"We are honored to announce EEI and EPRI as official partners for this year's virtual conference," said Kelly Speakes-Backman, CEO of ESA. "Energy storage is an enabling asset like no other, and it will take all of us working together to bring about the clean grid future we envision. With EEI and EPRI, this year's content will be even stronger and more beneficial to the entire energy storage industry. From electrification to resilience, we can offer a full spectrum view of everything from commercial aspects to technical expertise to policy discussions, at an unprecedented time in our industry's history."

EEI CEO Tom Kuhn will offer remarks during the opening keynote session of #ESACon20. This session is scheduled for Monday, August 24 from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm EDT. On Tuesday, August 25 during that same timeframe, EPRI President Arshad Mansoor will lead a keynote session on how utilities are looking at energy storage has a potential tool to help meet efficient electrification goals and renewable energy standards affordably and reliably.

"America's electric companies are leading a clean energy transformation, and energy storage plays a vital role in integrating the record amounts of renewable energy that we are deploying all across the country," said EEI President Tom Kuhn. "There are tremendous opportunities ahead of us to utilize energy storage to further enhance energy grid resilience and to help decarbonize other sectors of the economy, and this year's virtual conference will help to ensure that we continue working together to deliver a clean, reliable, and secure energy future for our customers."

"As consumers' needs and expectations evolve, the electric grid is rapidly changing into a highly integrated network of power generation, delivery systems, energy storage and customer-sited distributed energy resources," said Arshad Mansoor, EPRI President. "The pandemic has underscored the importance of continually enhancing grid flexibility and reliability, spotlighting the vital role of energy storage in the future of electricity."

In further steps to bring the industry together, #ESACon20 is offering group registration options, including an Enterprise Pass that allows unlimited team members from a single company to take part in the virtual conference experience. Registration offers access to all #ESACon20 content as well as all Storage Exchange presentations.

"We believe our content across the commercial, technical and policy realm of energy storage is unparalleled," continued Speakes-Backman, "and we hope the industry will take advantage of this unique experience as we gather more voices and hear from all stakeholders; whether a developer, manufacturer, investor-owned, municipal, or co-op utility, an energy manager, financier, or buyer of energy storage."

#ESACon20 offers insightful keynote speakers, interactive and on-demand educational sessions, and an eMarketplace to connect attendees with leading energy storage companies. ESAConTV anchors the week with a live stream of commentary and statements on the most important energy storage content of the day.
