Brews from the Sun Competition to Crown America's Favorite Solar Brewery

Solar United Neighbors, an organization dedicated to fighting for the rights of solar owners, announced that public voting has opened for the Second Annual Brews from the Sun Competition. The competition is an opportunity to celebrate the more than 130 breweries around the country that are using solar energy to power their beer. Solar supporters and craft beer enthusiasts will have the chance to vote for their favorite brewery that has gone solar.

"Brews from the Sun is our way of raising a glass to breweries across the country that have gone solar," said Anya Schoolman, Solar United Neighbors Executive Director. "They are going solar to save money and take control of where their electricity comes from with a clean energy source."

The Brews from the Sun competition is now in its second year. More than 41 breweries as well as thousands of solar and beer enthusiasts from around the country participated in the competition. Mudshark Brewery of Lake Havasu, Arizona won.

"Being a part of the Brews from the Sun competition has been a lot of fun! It has given our entire company, from our sales team, servers, bartenders, management and brewers the opportunity to engage with our customers on our sustainability efforts," said Tina Stocking, Director of Sales & Marketing at Mudshark Brewing, last year regarding their win. "We have been able to spread the word and encourage others to join us in going solar!"

This year's competition is even bigger. Participating breweries will compete in size categories as determined by the Brewers Association craft beer industry market segments. Prizes for first place, first runner-up, and second runner-up will be given in each category based on the highest number of unique votes each brewery receives. Voters may vote for as many breweries as they like, but only one vote per brewery per person will be counted. Public voting is open through June 15.

Throughout the competition, Solar United Neighbors will highlight craft breweries with solar and raise awareness about the many great breweries that have made the choice to go solar. It has also developed a guide to help breweries through the process of going solar. The craft beer industry is an important part of the transition to a clean, local energy system that benefits everyone.
