Celebrating 15 Transformative Years, MCEC Prepares to Propel Clean Energy to New Heights

Amidst the height of the clean energy movement, the Maryland Clean Energy Center (MCEC) has led the charge in Maryland. For the last 15 years, MCEC has created jobs, accelerated businesses, and facilitated investment. MCEC has leveraged over $200 million of private capital, further advancing Maryland’s clean energy economy. Since 2009, MCEC has supported its communities by generating over $100 million in grant awards throughout the state. MCEC also creates an impact on the lives of Maryland residents, with recent efforts utilizing almost $3 million in consumer funding and saving residents 125.9 million kWH. Poised for momentous growth and innovation, MCEC expands its capacity to impact more Maryland residents and businesses by welcoming new Board and staff – setting the stage for a bright and transformative future.

MCEC welcomes the new Vice Chair of the Board Robert H. Edwards Jr. In his current role as Managing Director at Hamilton Clark Sustainable Capital, Robert advises energy transition companies as they raise capital, collaborate with companies in their ecosystem, and scale manufacturing. Robert brings over 25 years of experience supporting decision makers in the private sector, connecting public and private stakeholders to develop, structure, and implement energy and clean tech projects in the United States and internationally.

Whitney Boles, Managing Director, Customer Products at Constellation Energy joins MCEC as a board member. In her role, she leads customer products and portfolio integration teams to manage power and natural gas products. Whitney has extensive experience in the energy sector, serving as Chief of Staff to the CEO of Constellation and the President and CEO of Exelon Generation. As a board member, Whitney will guide MCEC staff to continue to pursue its mission.

With nearly 20 years of experience at the intersection of finance and innovation in climate tech, renewable energy, and the clean energy transition, Robert F. Parker joins the Maryland Clean Energy Center as the Deputy Director of Finance & Innovation Investment. Robert has worked with more than 200 projects and companies across multiple clean technology and decarbonization verticals on strategy, operations, deploying capital, business development, finance, growth, and successfully sourced $500 Million in debt, equity, and government capital for climate tech innovation. His most recent professional roles have focused on scaling early and growth stage climate tech companies and helping them access a full capital stack, as well as supporting investment funds and government agencies dedicated to climate tech with due diligence, program development, and program operations. In his role, Robert will assist the Climate Catalytic Capital (C3) Fund, the Clean Energy Advantage (CEA) Loan Pilot Program, and the MDPACE program by leveraging and accelerating the deployment of capital from public and private sources to develop the clean energy transition in Maryland. Robert will also support MCEC partners in reaching their decarbonization goals.

Also joining the MCEC staff is Michelle Staudenmeier. In her position as Director of Marketing & Communications, Michelle will lead MCEC communications strategies to further support the delivery of its mission. As an accomplished marketing strategist and brand builder, Michelle’s passion for innovation and equity is what drives her. Michelle brings over 20 years of experience and has received over 70 awards for creative excellence.
