India Smart Grid Forum Becomes Energy Web Ambassador

The Energy Web Foundation (EWF) announced that India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) and its executive director, Reena Suri, have become the first Energy Web Ambassador in India. The announcement comes during India Smart Utility Week 2020, with EWF's lead blockchain architect, Nitin Gavhane, in attendance.

As an EW Ambassador, ISGF will play an active role in promoting EWF's ecosystem and solutions in the Indian market. ISGF and EWF have already been collaborating since 2018 promoting the potential of decentralized technologies in the energy sector. With this new agreement, they are now solidifying their partnership with a defined set of objectives that aims to engage India's largest energy players.

"This is an exciting and important time to strengthen our presence in India," explained Jesse Morris, EWF's chief commercial officer. "The country and its energy industry will be crucial for achieving our global vision of a low-carbon electricity system. With its broad network and focus on smart grid and smart city technologies, ISGF is the perfect partner for introducing our decentralized, digital solutions to that market."

India is currently the world's third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, but the country also has ambitious plans to more than triple its renewable energy capacity to 227 GW by 2022. India further aims to reach 450 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2030.

"As a public-private partnership, we bridge between the Indian government, utilities, regulators, academia, and technology providers across the country," explained ISGF executive director Reena Suri. "We see blockchain and other decentralized technologies as key to India reaching its Paris commitments and broader clean energy goals, and we are proud to represent the Energy Web Foundation as a technology leader in this arena."
