Marine Coordination Services B.V Contracted for Merkur Offshore wind Farm

Marine Coordination Services BV, based in Joure, will play a part in the commissioning phase of the Merkur Offshore wind farm, one of the largest wind turbine parks in Germany. Hamburg-based Merkur Offshore GmbH entrusts the Dutch specialist company with all operational marine coordination activities in this critical project phase. Marine Coordination Services BV is taking the place of GeoSea NV, a company of the Belgian DEME Group.

Through its managing owners Cor Van der Velde and Jens Doeksen, Marine Coordination Services BV states that it is proud of the contract. "As a newcomer to the Dutch market, it is our biggest challenge to gain the confidence of the international industry. It is fantastic that, at this stage, a player like Merkur Offshore has so much confidence in our know-how and innovative working approach."

Marine Coordination Services BV is characterised by the 24/7 deployment of seasoned marine coordination professionals coming from its own international network, the adoption of specialist information and communication technology, and the personal, operational commitment shown by its managing owners. Permanent monitoring of quality and safety is safeguarded and Messrs Van der Velde and Doeksen are personally involved in all operational activities. Mr Jens Doeksen said: "When you opt for Marine Coordination Services BV, you know where you stand, whom you are doing business with and where the responsibility lies."

The Merkur Offshore wind farm is entering the vital testing, operational and connecting phase. In mid-September, the Paris-based global market leader in renewable energy technology, GE Renewable Energy, announced that it had completed the installation of 66 Haliade 150-6MW turbines. Together, these account for a capacity of 396 megawatt. The Merkur offshore wind farm is situated at approximately 45 km north of the German East Frisian island of Borkum and has been realized from the Eemshaven, MCS's home base. In 2019, Germany's largest wind farm will provide clean energy to over 500,000 households.
