Irish Small Wind Turbines Stand Up to Super Typhoon Jebi

Galway-based wind turbine manufacturer, C&F Green Energy, the global leaders in small and medium sized wind turbines, are pleased to report that their entire fleet of wind turbines installed across Japan successfully withstood the onslaught of Super Typhoon Jebi, the worst storm to hit the country in a generation.

C&F Green Energy's Sales and Marketing Director, Sean Ganley, commented 'C&F Green Energy's fleet of wind turbines across Japan, close to 400 turbines in all with hundreds more commencing installation, have endured the worst storm conditions seen in Japan for a quarter of a century. Throughout Super Typhoon Jebi, our machines were remotely monitored in real time, around the clock, by our service team here in Athenry, while our engineers in Japan liaised with our customers and resellers to reassure them that their wind turbines would be more than capable of dealing with the extreme conditions. While the winds caused immense devastation to homes and critical infrastructure across Japan, our fleet stood strong through it all. Sadly, this extreme weather event had tragic consequences in some parts of Japan, and it was very important that we maintained close contact with our colleagues and customers across the country throughout Super Typhoon Jebi.'

'We recorded gusts of well over 200 km/h on a number of our wind turbines, many of them positioned along the Pacific coast or on high, exposed ground. Hurricanes and typhoons are the same weather phenomenon: tropical cyclones, and surviving unscathed through such extreme weather events further endorses the value of premium-quality, small scale wind energy as a renewable energy source worldwide.'

Ganley added, 'The Japanese market is hugely important to us. Japan is the strongest market in the world right now for small wind turbines, where C&F Green Energy has close to 90% market share. C&F Green Energy is now entering the market in Taiwan, and is further expanding to the US and Canada. As Ireland's only indigenous wind turbine manufacturer, we now await the support of our Government in our home market under its renewable energy support scheme.'

Ganley further added 'C&F Green Energy has invested heavily to become a world leader in distributed renewable energy. We have built this business organically, investing over €30m of C&F's own funds over the last decade in developing a world-class range of products here in Ireland - wind turbines built to withstand the most extreme weather events, anywhere in the world.'
