Geissler's Supermarket recently teamed up with Eversource on energy-saving improvements made to its East Windsor location. The upgrades will save the grocery store more than $63,000 in annual energy costs while delivering a more efficient and comfortable environment for staff and shoppers.

"We've been welcoming the East Windsor community into our store for generations and were eager to revamp the location," said Geissler's CEO and President, Jim Nilsson. "By assessing our energy usage and identifying the appropriate upgrades, we've been able to refresh the store's appearance and maintenance, as well as uphold our promise of quality and service to customers."

Geissler's took advantage of the Energize Connecticut Small Business Energy Advantage program, which begins with a free, no-obligation energy audit from an Eversource-authorized contractor.

"Updating the lighting to LEDs was one of the first steps we took at the East Windsor location," said Eversource Energy Efficiency spokesperson Enoch Lenge. "From the stock rooms to the inside of the ice cream freezers, these new bulbs create a brighter and clearer environment for everyone."

Geissler's also addressed the inefficiencies of their large-scale equipment that runs throughout the day. Instead of fully replacing their refrigerators, heating, cooling and hot water systems, the supermarket installed new motors and controls to monitor and decrease each system's overall energy usage.

"Not only have we already seen results in our energy usage, but also in the overall quality and comfort of the store," Nilsson added. "This is a program that truly works for small, family businesses, which is why we've moved forward with upgrades at nearly all of the Geissler's locations.

World Energy Efficiency Services completed the supermarket's assessment and installed the equipment. Small Business Energy Advantage program highlights include:
