Wind Farm Company Growing in White County, IN

The fifth phase of Meadow Lake Wind Farm in southern White County should be finished and ready to provide electricity on Sept. 15.

It will also be the phase where local energy companies will get electricity directly from Meadow Lake, said Andrew Magner, Project Developer for EDP Renewables.

Magner talked at Fridays' Monticello Rotary Club luncheon about Meadow Lake and about EDP's intention to expand its wind farm operations into northern White County, above Indiana 24.

"White County's always been good to us," Manger said.

The company's expansion could include Jasper, Benton or White counties, but it doesn't have any timelines or prospective sites for building a northern wind farm.

"(We're) prospecting at this point," he said.

EDP's immediate plans are to start the sixth phase of Meadow Lake in 2018 in Benton County.

Before that starts, the local utility companies that will get the phase five electricity directly from EDP instead of the market are Carroll White REMC, Hoosier Energy Rural Cooperative and Wabash County REMC, he said.
