Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group Announces 2017 Steven Gilbert Memorial Scholarship Recipients

The Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group (UVIG) Board of Directors has announced this year's Steven Gilbert Memorial Scholarship recipients. Gilbert was a long-time participant in UVIG who served on the UVIG Board of Directors and was Chair of UVIG's O&M User Group. He passed away suddenly in 2016 and as a way to honor him, the UVIG Board named its scholarship program after him.

The scholarship program serves as an extension of one of the organization's primary goals - to further the education of students enrolled in accredited college or vocational schools in programs related to power engineering, wind or solar energy, or the maintenance of wind turbines or solar power plants.

To qualify for the scholarship, students must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited engineering school and be pursuing a career in power engineering with a focus or major in wind or solar generation, or be enrolled in an accredited wind or solar power plant technician program.

"The UVIG board determines the recipients each year based on grade point average, the quality of their references, as well as a short essay explaining why the student is pursuing a career related to wind and solar generation," said Mark Ahlstrom, UVIG Board President. "This year's application pool was very strong, which is encouraging and exciting for the future of our industry."

With great honor, the UVIG Board of Directors recognizes the following students and congratulates them on their scholarship award:

Noah Mitchell-Ward, University of Michigan

Jose Guerrero, New Mexico State University

Jonathan Shinpaugh, Texas Tech University
