Frost & Sullivan Applauds Huawei's Revolutionary DC Power Products, Developed in Line with Evolving Consumer Needs

Based on its recent analysis of the DC power industry, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Huawei with the 2016 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Leadership. Huawei's trailblazing DC power products help end users save up to 90% of traditional overheads and maintenance (O&M) costs. The company has demonstrated exceptional commitment towards driving the transformation of the telecom energy industry and building a green and intelligent telecom energy network.

Huawei places considerable emphasis on simplicity, efficiency and reliability in its product development process. The result of this dedication to value is its innovative energy infrastructure management platform, NetEco, which supports smart site management and enhances site reliability. It is a comprehensive online management and monitoring system that provides real-time access and updates on all the site equipment. It facilitates accurate O&M management, especially with regard to energy efficiency management, by leveraging digitization technologies, intelligence and interconnection.

"Huawei has realized its vision of creating multiple telecom power solutions and incorporate value-added features and functionalities in each of those products," said Frost & Sullivan Sr. Industry Analyst Gautham Gnanajothi. "Its extensive product portfolio comprises adaptive telecom energy solutions designed for diverse environments, ranging from urban to rural, indoor sites to outdoor sites and small sites to central office sites. Furthermore, it offers a hybrid power solution to promote green energy."

One of the interesting features of Huawei's product line is its 'embedded power'. This not only forms the core of its indoor/outdoor power systems, but also provides individual embedded power systems where necessary. It employs a standardized structural design that is extremely compact and supports a 19-inch rack or cabinet installation. Besides, it can adapt to a variety of AC input voltage settings, and boasts intelligent battery management and remote monitoring.

Huawei's telecom power products have several unique features, especially intelligent management functions that eliminate the need for routine maintenance work. A case in point is its status of health (SOH) management function, which proactively facilitates intelligent lifespan management of key power equipment. This self-diagnosis function enhances O&M management and increases reliability by minimizing interruptions to the site network.

The company's excellence in technology is complemented by its clever product positioning strategy. Its customer centricity has resulted in a novel Multiple Energy Input & Multiple Mode Output (MIMO) function based on its proprietary software defined power (SDP) technology. The MIMO function presents end users with a high degree of flexibility to switch between multiple energy sources such as solar, grid, diesel generator, HVDC and battery.

At the core of the SDP technology is Huawei's advanced 'power rectifier', which is capable of accessing multiple energy sources at the same time with just a minor software/chip modification on the rectifier solution. Additionally, its multiple mode output allows users to choose from output power ranges such as 48Vdc, 24Vdc, 60Vdc, 225/400Vdc and 220Vac.

"Huawei's heavy investments in R&D led to impeccable product designs; its products employ a modular design even at a component level to ensure the power system is flexible and can be smoothly upgraded," noted Gnanajothi. "From an efficiency perspective, Huawei not only improves component level efficiency but also augments site-level energy efficiency. Its industry-leading high efficiency rectifier can enable efficiency rates of up to 98%, while its solar module and HVDC module offer efficiency rates of 98.5% and 97.0%, respectively."

Huawei emerged a clear market leader in 2015 with market shares of 29.3%, a 7% lead over its closest competitor. Its overall success in innovation and ability to develop technically advanced DC power products and solutions will further elevate its leadership position in the global market.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed a comprehensive product line that caters to the breadth of the market it serves. The award recognises the extent to which the product line meets customer base demands, the overall impact it has in terms of customer value as well as increased market share.
