EnerSys  Highlights Space-Saving Solutions for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

EnerSys ®, the global leader in stored energy solutions for industrial applications, will feature space saving energy storage products and solutions for utility applications in booth number 1237 at the DistribuTECH ® Conference and Exhibition. The conference and exhibition will take place Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego.

EnerSys offers an array of electric utility and switchgear solutions, from back-up power for remote substations to full utility-scale capacity optimization systems. EnerSys will highlight power management technologies and solutions designed for energy efficiency and renewable energy integration; from batteries that provide greater power in a smaller footprint, to outdoor battery enclosures designed to provide more indoor space for personnel and other equipment.

"Space for battery backup systems is often at a premium in substation control houses, especially in older facilities," said Dan Roche, marketing manager, UPS at EnerSys. "With systems that consist of batteries with a smaller footprint, as well as thermally managed outdoor enclosures, we are able to provide customers with a cost-saving approach to expanding energy storage needs beyond the typical brick-and-mortar expansion."

Attendees at the show will have the opportunity to learn about how the following EnerSys solutions contribute to space savings and energy flow management:

  • PowerSafe ® OGi batteries feature a Vented Lead Acid (VLA) technology that is ideal for utility market applications. Their rod plate composition offers a high energy density design, providing a space-efficient footprint. Additionally, the elevated post design allows for easy access when taking voltage and ohmic readings for fulfillment of NERC requirements.
  • VaultFlexâ„¢ outdoor enclosures provide a secure thermally managed environment for substation batteries. Available with a selection of heating and cooling options, VaultFlexâ„¢ outdoor enclosures maintain the proper operating temperature for backup battery systems in the most extreme environments, which reduces cooling costs and extends battery life, while providing more space in substation control houses.
  • PowerSafe ® batteries, which will be shown housed in the VaultFlexâ„¢ outdoor enclosure, feature thick positive plates made of lead-calcium for reduced watering requirements. They also are ideal for long discharge applications that are found at electrical utility facilities. Designed for easier maintenance, all posts and connectors reside above the cell covering for simplified maintenance routines, cell monitoring and measurements.
  • Genesis ® EP batteries, manufactured with advanced Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) technology, are part of an EnerSys off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) solution designed to meet the needs of renewable applications. Housed in an outdoor enclosure, which also incorporates solar panels, this sustainable backup power solution manages energy flow from the solar panels to and from the batteries.

"This comprehensive solution, incorporating EnerSys proprietary TPPL technology, is designed to exceed the needs of renewable applications and provide a reliable backup power solution to utilities during grid outages," said Ed Stein, business development manager, energy storage and renewables at EnerSys. "In addition to its superior performance characteristics, the Genesis ® EP battery excels in demanding applications such as high cycling and high temperature environments."
