Hannah Solar Government Services Helps Star Gospel Mission and Transitions Get Free Solar

Through a limited grant offered by Palmetto Clean Energy, Inc. (PaCE) for South Carolina non-profit supportive housing facilities to receive solar panels, Charleston SC's oldest Christian welfare organization, Star Gospel Mission and Columbia, SC based Transitions recently received full funding for solar energy systems on their facilities. Hannah Solar Government Services (HSGS), a service disabled veteran owned solar installer, assisted both non-profit organizations in obtaining the grant and then designed and installed the systems.

Funding for this project was provided, in part, by, PaCE, a South Carolina non-profit corporation formed for the purpose of encouraging the development of renewable energy technologies and encouraging the production of renewable energy in South Carolina.

Robert Long, PaCE Chairman, commented that "PaCE is proud to support Star Gospel Mission's and Transitions' investments in renewable energy, help reduce their energy costs, and allow more of their funds to be invested in their missions."

PaCE announced in late 2015 that funds were available for South Carolina non-profit supportive housing facilities to receive a solar energy system on a first-come first-served basis. Earlier this year, Star Gospel's and Transitions' grants were approved.
With the grant covering the entire up-front cost of installing solar, the solar energy system at Star Gospel Missions is expected to generate over $5,500 in savings in the first year and $154,000 over the useful life of the system. Transitions expects $4,800 in the first year and $143,000 over the system's life.

HSGS president, Dave McNeil, a retired US Army COL, said, "The PaCE grant for supportive housing facilities in SC to receive free solar was a great opportunity for organizations like Star Gospel Mission and Transitions to use the energy savings to do even more for the community."

Star Gospel Mission has been serving the homeless and needy in Charleston since 1904. They provide transitional housing for homeless men and respond to the needs of the community by offering food, clothing, rental assistance, utility assistance, emergency medical and transportation assistance. Their principal response is to homeless men who are working, or who have a steady source of income, such as veterans, or those who are disabled or who may be receiving unemployment.

The primary goal of Transitions is to move people from homelessness to permanent housing. Various strategies and types of housing are used to help stabilize individuals living on the street and enroll them in services designed to stabilize their lives, increase their income, and help them secure permanent housing.
