Modernized Landfill Gas to Renewable Energy Facility to Supply Power to Los Angeles

Fortistar Will Host a Tour of How It Traps Landfill Gas to Produce Energy

WHAT:
Fortistar has completed the first phase of its modernization project of the Lopez Canyon landfill gas (LFG) to energy project and has upgraded the facility to supply power to Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). The company will be hosting a tour of the modernized facility, which is one of the largest renewable projects in Los Angeles’ Feed in-Tariff Program. The LFG facility will supply 3 MW to the LADWP under a 20-year power purchase agreement, helping the department meet California’s goal of 33% renewable energy by 2020.

WHEN:
Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.

WHO:
Allen Hunt, Fortistar
Councilmember Felipe Fuentes, City of Los Angeles
Brian Koch, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power
Khalil Gharios, LA Sanitation

WHERE:
Lopez Canyon Landfill, 11950 Lopez Canyon Road, Lake View Terrace, CA

WHY:
Opportunity to see one of the largest renewable energy projects in Los Angeles’ Feed-in Tariff program—and the ONLY LFG to energy supplier in the program. Learn how methane—a potent greenhouse (heat trapping) gas with a global warming potential that is 25 times greater than carbon dioxide—is captured and converted to renewable energy.
