Solar Power for All: Horizon Solar Power to install system for low-income family

Horizon Solar Power joins nonprofit GRID Alternatives to install a solar power system for a low income family in Hemet, California. The two-day installation is set for September 26th and 27th.

“GRID Alternatives’ Volunteer Program allows our staff to give back through solar, right here within our community,” Horizon Solar Power Business Development Director Ruben Ugarte said. “And it’s not just about helping this family; we’re also solidifying our partnership with GRID to help more families in the future and to eventually hire GRID’s volunteers for positions within our company.”

Elected officials from the state assembly, congress, and Hemet’s own city council are expected to be in attendance to learn more about job creation through clean energy.

This is Horizon Solar Power’s first volunteer installation with GRID Alternatives, a nonprofit organization that brings together community partners, corporate sponsors, volunteers, and job trainees to implement solar power and energy efficiency for low-income families, providing energy cost savings, valuable hands-on experience, and a source of clean, local energy that benefits us all.

"We're excited to have a volunteer team from Horizon Solar Power out to help us build a solar electric system for a family in need,” said Cynthia Corrales, GRID Alternatives Inland Empire Workforce Development & Volunteer Coordinator. “It’s a great opportunity for the employees to work together, strengthen their team, and demonstrate commitment to the local community as well as to support GRID’s mission.”

“We’re helping low-income families install solar systems and helping people find jobs in our industry,” Ugarte said. “This is a win-win for everyone.”
