Virginia stands to succeed as a major hub, if not the east coast epicenter, for manufacturing and assembly of wind turbine equipment and other major offshore components. A geographic advantage, a ready workforce, no height restrictions, as well as abundant and cost-effective “lay-down space” for components are among the requirements for wind success. Virginia has them all. The Port of Virginia, which boasts a natural harbor with the deepest US east coast port channels, is unlike other east coast ports as it bears no obstructions such as bridges and overpasses.
