fully utilize the farm’s existing hardware and software, while also offering unfettered access to all turbines and grid stations. An operator specific access handler meant continued turbine access with zero OEM passwords. Even better, this new approach was installed and deployed in under 30 minutes per turbine, granting access without new hardware or type certification. User access rights management were directly in the owner's hands, guaranteeing independence and security.
Part of the access solution package included a new SCADA platform, Wind Power SCADA (WPS). Utilizing the open communication standard IEC 61400-25, WPS provides communication via OPC UA, standardizing nomenclature for mixed-fleet sites and facilitating migration to a common, flexible SCADA platform. An additional feature designed to boost energy production unlocked complete access to all turbine parameters. This helped the sites realize significant AEP gains. By hosting SCADA turbine data locally (via localized servers) the customers were able to achieve faster data transmission speeds – and further independence from the OEM.
By unlocking complete access to all turbine parameters, the access solution allowed owners to quickly reestablish the connection to their plant and turbines, minimize the potential for extended downtime, and keep future maintenance in-house. In the end, they were able to reevaluate, reinvent, and ultimately come out on top.

Convenient and economical solution for condition- based maintenance
STMicroelectronics is powering the next generation of Industry 4.0 applications with
a new vibration-sensing solution optimized to enable smart maintenance of factory equipment. ST’s IIS3DWB vibration sensor and supporting STEVAL-STWINKT1 multi- sensor evaluation kit accelerate development of condition-monitoring systems that boost productivity by inferring equipment maintenance needs. Analyzing the sensed vibration data locally or in the cloud helps owners create strategies that maximize uptime, minimize servicing costs, and avoid emergency repairs. The IIS3DWB is a 3-axis MEMS accelerometer optimized for industrial vibration sensing. The STEVAL- STWINKT1 simplifies prototyping and testing by integrating the IIS3DWB with additional sensors, an ultra-low-power microcontroller, and algorithms for vibration processing, Bluetooth wireless module, and USB connection. Housed in a plastic enclosure with a battery, the kit is ready to begin application development and presents a convenient reference design. High-speed data-logger and cloud-dashboard utilities are included to help collect, analyze, and visualize the results.

Adjustable shackle tools
The new Williams Wedge and Bull Pin with Position Adjustable Shackle tools from Snap-on Industrial are suitable for a variety of uses within the wind, natural resources, power generation, and related industries. The Wedge with Position Adjustable Shackle tool is used for splitting mating surfaces. The areas may be flanges, edges, aligning holes (and their surrounding surfaces) or similar features. The Bull Pin with Position Adjustable Shackle tool is used for aligning steel structures to facilitate the fitting of connecting bolts or rivets. These tools feature wave washers that allow the shackle to be positioned out of the way while being struck, even when used upside down. They are manufactured from heat-treated alloy steel with a durable stainless steel shackle that will not corrode in harsh environments.
