DOE Announces Hitachi-ABB Power Grid’s Participation in CyTRICS Program

30 Apr 2021

The Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER) announced that Hitachi ABB Power Grids is participating in DOE's Cyber Testing for Resilient Industrial Control System (CyTRICS) program as an equipment manufacturer.

CyTRICS partners across energy sector stakeholders to identify high priority digital components prevalent in industrial control systems, perform expert testing, share information about cybersecurity vulnerabilities in the digital supply chain, and inform improvements in component design and manufacturing. CyTRICS leverages best-in-class test facilities and analytic capabilities at DOE’s National Laboratories and strategic partnerships with key stakeholders including technology developers, manufacturers, asset owners and operators, and interagency partners.

Global technology supply chains are increasingly fragmented and complex, causing changes in the overall risk for the U.S. energy system. As the recent compromise of SolarWinds software illustrated, cybersecurity for software supply chains is a high priority concern. CyTRICS advances DOE’s work to address these growing digital supply chain challenges and mitigates vulnerabilities before they compromise the integrity and reliability of critical system components.

“CESER’s work to secure the energy sector is made possible through our partnership with companies like Hitachi ABB Power Grids,” said Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Puesh Kumar. “The central mission of ensuring the cybersecurity our of critical energy infrastructure relies on private and public organizations coming together to meet our common security goals. We are excited to include an innovative company like Hitachi ABB in CyTRICS as we face these challenges together.”

As one of the world’s leading suppliers of products, solutions, software and services for the power industry, Hitachi ABB Power Grids sets a strong industry example for participation in DOE’s mission to secure and strengthen the U.S. power grid.
