Statement from REBA's CEO Miranda Ballentine

The world's largest energy buyers and environmental NGOs came together to form the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA) creating a collective market voice advocating for renewable energy standards and a zero-carbon energy future. REBA is proud to join forces with these industry leading companies, many of whom are members, as we urge Congress to include clean energy provisions in the COVID relief and recovery spending package.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, clean energy was one of the nation's strongest sectors, growing 70% faster than the economy as a whole and five times faster than the rate of fossil fuel jobs. Well over half of all energy consumption comes from the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector, so it is increasingly important that large energy buyers are identifying opportunities to reduce emissions. REBA's member companies are setting ambitious goals to reduce their emissions to net-zero by 2050 or even earlier, and a look at REBA's Deal Tracker reveals that these companies are already integrating renewable energy as one of the most significant ways to work toward a zero-carbon future while also contributing to local economies.

The signatories on this official letter are taking their leadership a step further by advocating for the policies that will enable them to achieve these ambitious climate goals and drive down emissions while also supporting economic recovery. REBA members that signed the letter include Adobe, Atlassian, Cargill, Dell Technologies, EILEEN FISHER, Inc., Hewlett Packard Enterprise, LG Electronics USA Inc., Mars Incorporated, McDonald's Corporation, Nestle, PepsiCo, Salesforce.com, Inc., Stonyfield Organic, Tiffany & Co., Trane Technologies and WeWork.

We urge Congress to Build Back Better by ensuring that clean energy is prioritized as a part of all COVID relief package options under consideration.
