EMD International A/S, Developer of windPRO Software Package, Acquires Stake in ENFOR A/S

EMD International A/S, the developer of the windPRO software package for design and planning of wind farms, has purchased a major stake of ENFOR A/S, located in the greater Copenhagen area, as part of a strategic partnership between the two companies.

ENFOR is a supplier of software and solutions for forecasting and optimization within the energy sector. The company was established in 2006 as a result of research activities related to energy systems, artificial intelligence, statistics, advanced modeling and forecasting techniques carried out at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) during the past twenty years.

ENFOR offers the WPPT forecast software for predicting the energy production at both single wind farms as well as larger portfolios of wind farms for the coming days. The software is based on the use of advanced non-linear statistical models and artificial intelligence. The WPPT forecast software has been used for nearly two decades by many internationally recognized wind farm operators, utilities and TSO’s.

As part of the cooperation, it is the intention is to increase sale of ENFOR´s products and services internationally through the EMD global sales network. The cooperation will also focus on knowledge exchange in connection with the continued development of both companies’ current product portfolios as well as development of new joint products.

Per Nielsen, Managing Director at EMD, says: "So far, EMD has mainly been focusing on software and consultancy services in connection with the design and planning of new wind farms, but in addition we will soon offer a new software solution aimed at the operational phase of wind farms. In this connection, we see a great value in being able to offer ENFOR´s forecasting solutions to our customers along with our own software solution, as they complement each other ".

Torben S. Nielsen, Managing Director at ENFOR, has the following comments in connection with share acquisition: "As a minor, very technically-oriented company, we look forward to working with EMD, who has become the leading supplier of design and planning software to the international wind energy sector with their WindPRO software package sold to over 2,000 companies in nearly 100 countries. Similarly, EMD has built up a global competent sales network, which we also now will have access to. Therefore, the cooperation will mean that our WPPT wind energy forecast solutions will be available to wind farm operators on new markets currently not served by us."
