Direct-to-metal tower coating

A new, anti-corrosive, 60-minute-to-dry coating from Hempel A new, anti-corrosive, 60-minute-to-dry coating from Hempel promises to increase line-speeds for wind tower manufacturers by at least 50%, when compared to standard two- and three-coat systems. Hemparea DTM 55973 is a splash-zone coating that combines a primer and a topcoat in a single application. Based on polyaspartic, fast-cure technology, it’s the only C3 classified coating on the market that can be handled within one hour at 20° C (50 %RH). Hemperea DTM 55973 can be applied directly to metal, and is suitable for C3 corrosive environments. It releases very few volatile organic compounds into the environment.

Many onshore wind towers, for instance, need a C3 classified anti-corrosive coating to protect them from wear, tear, and corrosion. Standard coating systems can take between four and 12 hours to dry, which causes bottlenecks in production lines. By reducing that curing time to one hour, Hemparea makes it possible for wind tower manufacturers to vastly increase line speeds and reduce production costs.
