Advanced Lithium Batteries for Automobile Applications

The world's leading experts for batteries are set to convene in Ulm on October 6 through 9 at the Advanced Lithium Batteries for Automobile Applications conference (ABAA-12) to talk about the latest developments in academia and industry. This, the event's twelfth installment, has attracted very top-class participants with representatives from BASF, BMW, Daimler, EcoPro, General Motors, Nissan, Renault, Toshiba, Umicore, Volkswagen, and others taking this opportunity to discuss the future of this key technology for electric mobility. ABAA-12 will focus on questions relating to the service life and safety of electrochemical energy sources. The Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW), the Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU), and the International Automotive Lithium Battery Association (IALB) are hosting the conference, which is to take place at the Maritim Hotel in Ulm. Influential policymakers from Germany, Europe, Japan and the USA, automotive industry representatives, material and cell manufacturers, and internationally renowned scientists will attend the ABAA-12 conference. Around 300 participants can expect to see presentations on the latest developments and many opportunities to share their thoughts on future research topics. ABAA is an international confer-ence with changing venues across all continents. The ZSW's Dr. Margret Wohlfahrt-Mehrens, HUI's Prof. Stefano Passerini and Dr. Khalil Amine of the IALB/ Argonne National Laboratory, USA, will chair it.

"The automotive industry expects annual production to exceed 20 mil-lion electric cars by 2025 - and batteries will have to be made for all these vehicles. ABAA-12 addresses the full spectrum of topics related to this key technology, including everything from basic research to real-world, day-to-day experiences and manufacturing issues," says Dr. Margret Wohlfahrt-Mehrens, head of the Accumulators Materials Re-search at ZSW.

According to Prof. Stefano Passerini and Dr. Dominic Bresser of the HIU, "The conference will present and discuss the state of the art, future trends, new materials and technologies, as well as equally important topics such as sustainability and recycling."

Four days ABAA-12: Presentations, lab tours & exhibitions

Around 40 industry and science experts will share their latest findings in eleven sessions over three days, reporting on new materials, better components and case studies. There will also be a poster exhibition and plenty of opportunities for discussions in a relaxed atmosphere. The conference's program kicks off on October 6 with tours of the HIU and ZSW laboratories in Ulm. It will also feature an industry exhibition, with slots still available for companies interested in staging a show-case.
