Midsummer Hires New Head of Research and Development

Swedish solar energy technology leader Midsummer has hired a new Head of module-R&D. Klaus Wiegel holds an MSc in Physics from the Technical University of Dresden and has a background as Research and Production Manager at Gällivare PhotoVoltaic (GPV). Klaus Wiegel will assume his new role on March 1, 2019.

Midsummer is presently expanding its in-house production of solar cells and flexible panels and the company further strengthens the team with a new Head of Module R&D. The company is experiencing a greater global interest in its flexible solar panels, especially in the US where the demand for new types of flexible solar cells is increasing. This requires unique and innovative solutions.

Klaus Wiegel has a background as Research and Production Manager from Gällivare PhotoVoltaic (GPV) and most recently held a position as Research Engineer and former Production Manager at the Swedish mining giant LKAB. Klaus holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Physics from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany.

In the role as Head of Module-R&D, Klaus Wiegel will be responsible for the development of the next-generation flexible solar panels. Klaus assumes his role on March 1, 2019.

"Mr Wiegel, with his extensive experience from both research and production of solar modules, will be a good addition as we intend to turn up our production rate further to meet the increased demand for our products", said Sven Lindström, CEO of Midsummer AB

"I am excited to start working for Midsummer. What I look forward to most is not just talking about sustainability but actually getting the opportunity to work for a good and sustainable future in a very tangible way and with a fascinating technology", said Klaus Wiegel.

Midsummer's DUO system has taken the position as the most widespread manufacturing tool for flexible thin film solar cells in the world. Midsummer is today the world leader in being able to produce light, flexible, robust thin film solar panels with high-energy efficiency.
