Increasing Low Carbon Capability in North America: Dr. Carolyn Heeps Joins Lloyd's Register to Drive Growth in Renewable Energy

Dr. Carolyn Heeps joins Lloyd's Register (LR) to lead the growth of the company's renewable energy business in North America.

Heeps began her career in offshore renewables at The Crown Estate, and led the first two (2) rounds of leasing in the UK offshore wind sector. Heeps has since worked with Fred Olsen Renewables and the RES-Group where she was responsible for new market opportunities, and which led to her involvement on projects and consultancy service provision in the USA, France, and Asia Pacific.

Recently Heeps spent two (2) years working with the Ørsted team in their new US business in Boston, MA. Drawing on expert knowledge of the local regulatory environment and stakeholder engagement, Heeps supported Ørsted's successful entry into the region, delivering the role of Consultation Manager in the Environment and Permitting team for the commercial scale development projects off Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Karl Ove Ingebrigtsen, LR's Director of Low Carbon Power Generation, says: "I am delighted to welcome Carolyn to the team, as she brings with her a demonstrable track record of achievements on behalf of renewable energy clients around the world. Her commitment and expertise is a fantastic addition to LR's already world-class capability in the sector, and we look forward to supporting the growth of low carbon power in North America."

Between 2016-2018 Heeps held the Chair of the American Wind Energy Association's Offshore Committee, and in 2017 was recognised as one of the "100 Women in Wind" report. She also has special interests in sustainable development, STEM education, public outreach and workforce development.

In 2001, Heeps founded a unique Charitable Trust to fund projects to understand the environmental impacts of offshore wind. The COWRIE Fund awarded over  £3m to over 20 projects in the UK and achieved recognition through the development of standardised methodologies for a range of environmental surveys that now have global application.

Heeps says: "As Head of Renewables, North America for LR, I am delighted to have joined such a prestigious organisation and to be given the opportunity to expand our service provision in this exciting new market. Building a US team that can draw upon the existing expertise of such an experienced and diverse organisation already very active in the renewables sector, as well as developing new specialist skills and talent, is an exciting proposition."
