Suniva Statement on President Trump's Commitment to Fair and Reciprocal Trade

Following his recent trip to China, President Trump once again reiterated that America "will never again turn a blind eye to cheating, economic aggression or anything else from countries that profess a belief in open trade but do not follow the rules or live by its principles themselves."  He further noted that, "We will take every trade action necessary to achieve the fair and reciprocal treatment that the United States has offered to the rest of the world for decades."

The President's latest comments follow the U.S. International Trade Commission's unanimous ruling that Suniva, an American high-tech manufacturer of solar cells and panels and SolarWorld, another American manufacturer, both suffered injury due to the influx of foreign imports, including those from China and its proxies.  While American solar manufacturers played by the rules, China spent billions supporting their companies, who were able to sell products below the cost of production, bankrupting nearly 30 American companies in the last five years. While this was occurring, the Chinese military was also indicted for hacking SolarWorld.

Suniva issued the following statement:

"We are glad President Trump reiterated his commitment to making sure American manufacturers can compete on a level playing field.  After his remarks today, we're optimistic that the President will implement the remedies we've put forward, including global tariffs on solar imports, to prevent the extinction of American solar manufacturing due to China's repeated and blatant cheating."
