Lighting Science Named Finalist in LEDs Magazine's 2017 Sapphire Awards

LEDs Magazine recently named LED innovation powerhouse Lighting Science as a 2017 finalist in four separate categories for their annual Sapphire Awards. The company's shatter-resistant LED lamp, the Durabulb, is a finalist in the Commercial-Quality SSL Lamp Design category; the HealthEGenesis DynaSpectrum lamp in the Specialty SSL Design category; and the L-Bar, a revolutionary, lightweight linear LED, in the Linear T8 SSL Lamp Design Category. LEDs Magazine also recognized Fred Maxik, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Lighting Science, as a finalist for their prestigious Illumineer of the Year Award.

2016 was a year of marquee product launches," says Lighting Science CEO Ed Bednarcik. "The Sapphire Awards celebrate innovation among our industry peers, so the recognition is that much more exciting as we look towards 2017."

The Sapphire Awards recognizes true technology innovators and is the first in the lighting industry to focus on the LED-based solid-state lighting (SSL) market from an enabling-technology and elegance-of-design perspective. Winners in each category will be announced on March 1, 2017.

"It's an honor to be nominated for this award and to be in the company of such distinguished industry thought-leaders," says Maxik of his Illumineer of the Year nomination. "Having dedicated so much of my work to the advancement of the LED industry since its inception, it's immensely satisfying to see how far we have come-and how many possibilities lay ahead of us as we continue to innovate and educate the world on the power of light."
