Renewable Power Direct Names Eric Alam CEO, Closes New Funding

Renewable Power Direct (RPD), the national green power marketer, has hired Eric Alam, an experienced energy industry executive, to head its growing business of supplying Fortune 1000 companies with directly sourced renewable power.

Mr. Alam was formerly executive vice president of sales at Viridity Energy, an energy management software company, and has held executive roles in several retail power companies. He will open a new office for RPD in Houston.

“Eric’s broad experience in delivering cutting-edge energy services to business users will benefit our customers and our renewable energy suppliers alike,” said Gregory C. Staple, the founder and chairman of RPD. “With a seasoned leader like Eric on board, I am confident that RPD’s clean power sales to the U.S. business community will continue to accelerate.”

Mr. Alam said: “The power market is changing rapidly, and RPD has crafted the type of next-generation renewable electricity products that corporate America now wants to meet sustainability goals and manage its energy spend.

“RPD’s business model is one of the most important innovations that I have seen to supply electricity, and I am very excited to lead RPD’s next phase of growth to serve a business market that demands better alternatives.”

New Funding Round
RPD also announced that it had closed a new investment round led by T. Wayne Gatlin and the company’s current equity holders. Mr. Gatlin is a co-founder of Santanna Energy Services (SES), a retail energy marketing company, and the only founder still active in ownership and direction of the company. SES has been continuously providing retail energy services to customers in various markets for more than 27 years.

Mr. Alam has been leading and managing businesses in the energy industry for more than 25 years, with experience across sales, operations, wholesale trading, retail structuring, M&A and risk management.

Prior to Viridity, he served on the executive team of World Energy where he streamlined operations and significantly grew sales revenue.

Mr. Alam has also served in leadership positions at Commerce Energy and Pennzoil. Notably, at Commerce Energy he was part of the three-member executive team that led a company turnaround, took it public and subsequently grew it to become the largest non-utility U.S. retail energy company.

Throughout his career, Mr. Alam has worked with end-use customers to develop innovative solutions to meet energy-related objectives.
