Dayton Power and Light Awards $686,574 in Energy Efficiency Rebates to 12 Miami Valley School Districts

The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation, awarded a second round of energy efficiency rebates to 12 Miami Valley school districts made possible by the On Board program.

On Board, a partnership between DP&L, Waibel Energy Systems and the Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council, worked with 32 Miami Valley school districts to enable them to achieve energy savings without investments of capital improvements or new equipment. Earlier this year, DP&L presented an additional $307,000 in energy efficiency rebates to 13 districts that accumulated energy savings. Today’s event awards $686,574 in energy efficiency rebates for the remaining school districts earning rebates, including the largest saving districts of Dayton City Schools and Beavercreek City Schools. The initiative has saved more than 9,000,000 kilowatt hours.

On Board is unique because it uses simple energy-saving measures recommended by Waibel Energy Systems, such as programming boilers more effectively, reducing heating/cooling based on occupancy and using energy meters to improve load shedding during nights, weekends, holidays and snow days. DP&L contracted with Heapy Engineering to verify the results and calculate the energy efficiency rebates.

“Since the pilot program in 2013, DP&L, Waibel and the Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council have worked pro-actively to determine the smartest and simplest ways to help school districts cut their energy costs while striving to maintain quality educational outcomes,” said Tom Raga, President and CEO of DP&L. “DP&L believes the On Board program has demonstrated its value for both our educational partners, the community and the environment.”

The 12 schools receiving DP&L energy efficiency rebates today include Beavercreek City Schools, Dayton City Schools, Dayton Christian Schools, Fort Loramie Local Schools, Franklin Monroe Local Schools, Marysville Exempted Village Schools, Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools, Miamisburg City Schools, Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Services, Montgomery County Educational Service Center, New Lebanon Local Schools, and Tecumseh Local Schools.

The school program is part of DP&L’s ongoing energy efficiency efforts for customers, which also include rebates on new heat pumps and air conditioners, discounts on energy efficient lighting and rebates for business customers. See more energy efficiency measures at www.dpandl.com/save.
