Steve Wirtel Joins Kore Infrastructure as Executive Vice President, Business Development

Kore Infrastructure, a biosolids management solution provider that produces ultra-clean diesel fuel and other renewable resources from wastewater biosolids, announced it has hired Steve Wirtel, P.E. as Executive Vice President, Business Development.

A 30-year veteran of the water and wastewater market, Wirtel will lead Kore’s strategic growth in the U.S. and around the world. Most recently, Wirtel was Senior Vice President, Nutrient Recovery at Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies and has held executive management positions with Carollo Engineers and USFilter.

“Steve is an incredible addition to Kore and I’m honored to have him aboard,” said Cornelius Shields, Kore’s Co-Founder and Executive Chairman. “His experience with wastewater utilities is a tremendous asset and he fills out the proven talent on Kore’s executive management team.”

“Kore’s technology overcomes the biosolids management challenges wastewater agencies face,” said Wirtel. “The Kore process provides an enduring diversification option that converts biosolids into a resource we all need: energy. I wanted to be a part of that.”

Kore’s first commercial facility is under construction in Southern California and will service the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts and other wastewater agencies beginning in 2016. The company’s patented thermal process has earned permits from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and for compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), as well as road-spec certification for the ultra-low-sulfur diesel it produces from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Kore has also received the Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Chemistry Award.
