Tanuj Deora Joins SEPA as Chief Strategy Officer

The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) has announced that Tanuj Deora has joined the educational nonprofit’s executive team in the newly created position of Chief Strategy Officer and Executive Vice President. Deora will provide strategic direction and leadership for SEPA and oversee the organization’s advisory services, education, research and communications activities.

“Tanuj brings a wealth of experience in private and public sector energy work to SEPA,” said Julia Hamm, President and CEO of SEPA. “He has worked closely with executives and business development teams at renewable and conventional energy firms and at many of the leading electric utilities in the country. He not only has expertise in fast-changing electricity markets, but he also brings a high level of energy and strategic vision to help SEPA enhance delivery on its mission and expand value to its members.”

Deora comes to SEPA from IHS, a global energy research and consulting firm, where he served as commercial director of energy insight, managing a portfolio of market intelligence and forecasting services on the North American power, gas and renewable energy markets.

Prior to IHS, Deora served Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper as director of the Colorado Energy Office. His diverse background also includes business development for EDPR (formerly Horizon Wind Energy); work in advisory services, engineering, and energy trading; and service in the United States Peace Corps. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

“I am very excited to join SEPA at this unique time in the electric power industry,” Deora said. “The team has established a critical position helping utilities respond effectively to key changes in technology, policy and customer preference, drawing on expertise in business benchmarking and program and business model design.

“As pressure continues to grow from customers and policymakers to improve the sustainability, resiliency and flexibility of the electric grid, utilities now face complex and evolving challenges to integrate new resources into their portfolios,” he said. “SEPA is committed to becoming the premier thought partner for utilities across all their integration needs."
